i want to build a cute little vintagey place with a bar/seating area in the front (that will eventually be a coffee bar) and a stage in the back. my whole life - i have been a night owl. and it's kind of a big bummer being a night owl - because in most cities - there's nowhere for night owls to go at night! i want to be that place. the place that's open after you get done with rehearsal, or a gig, or... or... or... whatever. not a rowdy place - but a place with a piano, and a drum set, and guitars, couches to chill on, books to read, good drinks and pastries for that middle-night-munch... imagine you get a text at 2 am that says "you up? i can't sleep." you are WIDE awake, so you say "i'm up. let's go on an adventure".
okay, well, i know this from almost 40 years of late night adventuring - nothing is open but nature... and nature is sometimes out to straight up murder you. so let's go to shelly's place and jam and be happy and choose to live and not get mauled by a wild canyon tiger or the jeepers creepers guy... and oh - it'll have a front patio AND a back deck all covered in vines and flowers... the whole place will be lovely and romantic and perfect :D
i will use the front room back stage to teach lessons and classes in the afternoons, and around 8 or 9 pm, the whole place will turn into music central. jam seshes, open mics, and local bands - all the time. the back patio will be covered in lights, and we'll use it to feature local singer/songwriters... a little more mellow vibe outside :D a little piece of heavenly musical nashville - right in the middle of (insert town here).
.... i have butterflies just thinking about it right now.
2. coffee bar
once the music sections are set up and running - we will be ready to start the coffee/hang out section.
nothing too over the top, but obviously stylish and vintagey and adorable with the best coffees (not EVERY coffee, just what we like the most). and guess what? WELL BEHAVED AND POTTY TRAINED DOGS ALWAYS WELCOME. you heard me.
boom. deal with it.
when we were in high school, we went to this incredible movie theatre (i thought in santa cruz, but i have NEVER been able to find it since) that was also a coffee bar and had a patio, and it was just... it was everything. there were no chairs in the movie theatre - there were only couches and floor pillows and the whole ceiling was covered in twinkle lights... and i truly believe it was at that point that this dream was born.... because i can't really remember a time in my adult life that i haven't been planning my shoppe.
there will be an outside patio on the front of the cafe with huge windows so everyone can see the glory inside and out. the interior front section will be filled with couches and lamps and twinkle lights and secret little corner rooms to hide in... it'll be magical. there will be record players and tapes and cd's and books everywhere, so you can bring your special someone here to create your own magical moment...... there's the butterflies again <3 <3
3. mini bakery
i said mini - nothing huge, just an adorable little corner. most of the women i know, including myself, REALLY love to bake, and wouldn't it be so incredibly 90's and amazing and fun to get off work and head over for a delicious coffee (decaf if you need it) and a few muffins or croissants, or cupcakes, or baguettes and head home with a great bottle of wine???? i MISS those 90's days where everyone was just constantly at the coffee shop every morning before work/school, on every break, and all night long... til they closed... AT TEN. bummer. but we'll party all night long with our own special brand of deliciousness :D
4. flower shoppe
yes yes yes!!!!! step 4 of the shoppe is the flowers!!!! now THAT i really can't wait for. can you imagine walking into a little shoppe and seeing coffee on your left, baked goods to your right, bookcases and stacks of books everywhere that you can check out, a stage in the back with live music playing at all times with a little sign that says "lightway to light" (anne of green gables anybody? anybody?) and you walk down a hallway lined with twinkle lights and just before you reach the back patio filled with even MORE lights - where even MORE music is playing - you come upon a little FLOWER SHOPPE????? WHAT???? i can't even handle it. I CANNOT EVEN HANDLE MY BRAIN.
ALRIGHT. one of my other favorite parts (secret: they're all my favorite parts) is the library portion. everywhere we need a half wall or a hallway... everywhere there's a table or a sofa, over all the doors and etc etc etc - there will be books. you can check all the books out, or buy them, or bring a book - take a book... my entire apartment is kind of a freestyle library, so it's pretty natural that books would be a big part of my dream place ;D <3
(sidenote: there is a place in sonora called "Legends", and you need to go if this sounds like your kind of place.... its soooooo incredibly dreamy. the top part is an ice cream/sandwich shoppe. they have a little sitting room with a piano, a long bar with tons of ice cream and food available, and then the whole back section is a bookstore. BUT- the kicker - is the basement.... its a literal CAVE OF BOOKS. i can't even describe it. i almost cried the first time i went down there... i was like "this is my dream come to life.... i have dreamt of creating this for SO long..." i am there as much as humanly possible, and can't WAIT to bring my own to fruition!!! :D <3 <3 <3 )
obviously, a place as cool as this has to have lots of fun events, and fun events WE SHALL HAVE. meditation, open mics, calligraphy, happiness, kid nights, chakras, music writing, book readings, dance parties, full moon yoga, movie nights, anything crazy and fun and spiritual you can think of - come on down and we'll be making it happen! :D
everything i'm doing right now, as hard as i'm working... in my heart - everything is building me towards my goal of opening this place one day :D and i hope you'll come hang!!! :D <3 <3 <3
