hello!!! it's been MONTHS since i've blogged anything!
this year i made a promise to myself to "get back into life" - and boy... did i ever.
this was seriously one of the busiest years of my entire life, and that is saying something.
i generally work around 16 hours a day, but for most of this year i've worked anywhere from 20 to 24 hours straight MOST DAYS! it's been a BLAST.... but i'm exhausted all the time, haha ;D a minor trade off for having a beautiful and happy life, wouldn't you say? :D
i have been working up in sonora this year! a dream come true for me, since i always wanted to find a way to be there. i took a job as the musical director for a show called COWGIRLS at the end of january. we had an AMAZING time doing that show, and had rave reviews all over the central valley, and i was even nominated for a SARTA award for best leading actress in a musical! which... was a BIG, big honor - because everyone in that show was so great and so so talented :D
closing weekend of COWGIRLS, i met a man named nicholas, and we were immediately and completely obsessed with each other, for some reason. we started spending every free second together, and one night i said "hey - we should write a musical together." so - we stayed up til 3 am, peeing our pants in hysterics - and "captain encouragement: the musical" was born. nic's alter-ego is "captain encouragement", a superhero who speaks out against non-violence. he travels all over the country (and soon the world!) to spread his message of positivity. so naturally - he needed a musical to bring kids INTO it a little bit more. we ended up workshopping our show at stage 3 to VERY enthusiastic and kind audiences. it was kind of a mess, but it was also kind of amazing. it's hard to really mess up a message of positivity and love, ya know? :D
while that was going on, i was really sick. i had been cast in Stage Fair at sierra rep (where i had ALWAYS wanted to work) and ended up getting SO sick that my doctors pulled me from the show right as the director decided they needed to replace me. i had already missed 2 full weeks of performances, and they still didn't know what was wrong with me. but i was so ill i was barely functioning... all i was doing was sleeping, fainting, and throwing up blood. turns out i had a stomach full of bleeding ulcers, and kidney stones. long story short - it's only been in the past few weeks (IT'S OCTOBER, and this was back in JUNE) that i have really started to feel healthy again. i lost a good chunk of weight, and then gained it back, and then lost it again, and then gained it back, and now it's gone again- and i hope to never see it again! it's been a stress balancing act, and one that i don't always get right :/ you know me - i love to have 50 projects and jobs going at once, AND a social life - and i can't do that with this health situation. i have to stay stress free. i had to completely stop EVERYTHING i was doing (literally) - and then add the least stressful things back in, one by one. it was a chore, but i am finally feeling okay again, so i'm adding more stuff, and so far - feeling great :D
bug came to stay for a few weeks in august, which was GREAT... and then a few weeks later, came BACK for another week to bring audrey for her first california visit, which was incredible... every time with bug is just the best time so far. i don't know how she manages it - but at EVERY age - she is the cutest and the sweetest and best she's ever been. she is a perfect little humanoid, i tell ya. just perfect <3 and now i have a new little niece to fawn over, too! miss audrey lou!!!!
at one of the churches i work for, salida congregational, we lost our pastor to another church, late summertime. which was sad, but it is also forcing us to grow, and they had me take over all the music selection, and even put me on mic to lead the praise singing and hymns! that has been a LOT of fun the last few months, and the congregation is slowly but surely filling back up! :D it's exciting :D i love my church jobs SO much...
i also lead the praise team at college ave. congregational in modesto, and we do a praise service the first sunday night of every month. those are going really well too, and it's so fun to play with a drummer and bass player, and guitar player... we have a really great singer - robert - who leads the vocals with me, and that is just a blast. my salida job and my college ave. job are two of my favorite jobs i have EVER had <3 i hope you can come see a service sometime - the details are at the bottom of every page of this website, in the footer :D
and that brings me to what i'm doing, now! i am directing and musically directing FORBIDDEN BROADWAY in sonora!!! I AM FREAKING THRILLED. my cast is SO cute and SOOOOO TALENTED, and we are gonna blow the roof off! i hope you can come see us! visit stage3.org for details :D we open november 25 (the day before my bday!) and run through december 18. so not a long run, but a MIGHTY run :D i can't WAIT to show off these talented performers! :D <3
i'll be back tomorrow to tell you all about my purple turned hot pink hair :D wheeee!!!
