and here's what im thinking....
(scroll past the pictures for the full story) <3
boom. here we go. from tip top to pinky toe.....
i've worn the same pieces 4 times a week for the last 4 years.
i've added new pieces here and there, mostly dresses, mostly jewelry, but the basics stay the same.
same pair of jeans, same black sweater (which i LOVE and im not getting rid of, just adding some updates) and never a make up change because i know what i think looks good on me and im not changing.
WELL. since this is the year of the lady (yes, it still is even though i haven't written about it in forever, im also going to finish writing about the positive psychology i've been practicing this summer- like i was SUPPOSED to write about it every week but didn't... i've been busy. shut up....) and as part of my year of the lady, i was supposed to embrace a new personal style. well, i did. i got even sloppier. i let my hair grow out and didn't do it, it was a flaming mess. my clothes got even MORE casual... ive started almost exclusively wearing t-shirts- but i cut the necks out of all of them and pair them with a sweater and tight jeans and flats. i think i look cute most of the time- but the other day my mother was like "um, do you WANT me to buy you a regular shirt?" to which i responded by looking down at my shirt, and no joke- my boobs were hanging out. the necks on my cut-off t-shirts are SO HUGE AND LOW, they just fall down without me paying attention. i look. like. a. SLOB.
its time for an update.
so when i started the year of the lady, i thought i would really clean up my act. go back to wearing lots of fitted, black, fancy clothing like i did in my 20's... but that's just not me anymore. i've loosened up SO much, im like, a total hippie now. ive even monstrously loosened up in the last MONTH. chopping all my hair off and going platinum was a HUGE success for my self confidence. well, when i went to dye my roots the other day, i thought i'd brighten up the rest of the blonde as well, and oops- you can't put dark blonde on platinum. it all mixed and now im mousy brown again. WELL. back to ombre it is. the only thing about that is my hair is SO short now... its just below my ears... i think i can make it work.
i also vowed to start wearing it straight in an interest to clean up. WELL guess what. shorter hair automatically makes me look not so sloppy, so back to wavy hair it is.
i have decided that my new personal style is going to be called "Colorful Clean Bohemian Chic".
none of this olson twin-homeless-thing happening.
in my summer check list, part of it was to collect new hats and sweaters, and boy did i ever. i am SET for fall/winter.
and they are ALL bohemian-esque. now that i can sew, i have been adding and subtracting from my shirts and pants as well, and they all seem to have that bohemian feel now. so it's natural that i'd just go full bore into bohemian chic.
the ONLY things about the bohemian style that i'm not sure about, are the make up and the shoes.
for a "natural" look, bohemian chic sure wears a lot of eye make up, which i never do. massive mascara, and im done.
but im going to give it a whirl. ive invested in some pretty shimmery eye shadows, and some no-smudge eye liners (which NEVER work for me because im so sweaty, but fall is coming so hopefully the sweat will take a vacation...) and we'll see how it goes. and the shoes- LOTS and lots of sandals. i hate sandals. i do however love boots. so im going to focus more on the boots, and im including a few sandal options because i will incorporate some of those frilly touches into embellishments on my flats :) woo!
so here it is! <3 my inspirations for rebuilding my wardrobe.
i don't always get it right. i dropped $100 on new clothes the other day, and upon reflecting on my inspiration pictures, im taking more than half of them back. that's ok. embracing a new personal style has got to be a learning process, right? thats why they call it EMBRACING. you just go for it. wrap your arms around it and watch a giant marsupial take your old man to brown town. (hugh jackman on SNL anybody? anybody?)
WHAT DO YOU THINK?! <3
